Oklahoma Insanity

Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) is no stranger to bizarre pronouncements. You may remember his commentary on Abu Gharib--he was the Senator who was "outraged by the outrage." But, via The Plank, it is rare to see so many truly jaw-dropping claims by a sitting Senator in one articl. Among other comments, Inhofe claimed that:

-The success America has enjoyed in Iraq is "nothing short of a miracle."

-Defended the "Bridge to Nowhere" as "one of the few things in Washington that works."

-Argued that "global warming is largely a front for international economic movements."

Oklahoma might have the worst duo of Senators in the nation (Tom Coburn (R) is the other). They are crazy in different ways, to be sure, but when you get down to it, they're both mighty crazy.

Kansas has Oklahoma beat, in my opinion. Sam "Federal Marriage Amendment" Brownback and Pat "Senate Coverup Committee" Roberts make for a pretty ugly combination.

It's possible that if OK's senators had as much power as those two, they'd be worse, though.

Oh, I disagree. They are parallel though--each has one partisan hack (Roberts/Inhofe) and one principled nut (Brownback/Coburn). I think Inhofe has shown hackitude over a broader array of issues than Roberts. And not only is the limit of Coburn's extremism (remember the "lesbians in the bathrooms"?) further out than Brownback's, but while both's principles occassionally manifest themselves for good, Brownback's issue of extreme nobility (human rights) is better than Coburn's (pork).

Roberts has done so much damage on the intelligence committee that I have trouble saying that anything could be worse. Still, I like your use of the word "hackitude." Let's call it a draw.
