Canada's Siberia

Not to be cruel, but it seems quite meaningful that George W. Bush's first post-presidential appearance comes a) 8 weeks after left office, b) out of the country, and c) in Calgary, of all places. Was Yellowknife booked?

Don't be too quick to dismiss Calgary! It's the heart of Canadian Conservatism. It's also the epicentre of the Canadian oil industry and is basically seemlessly linked--at least in business and corporate terms--with places like Houston. It makes perfect sense that Bush would not only speak here, but find a very welcoming crowd.

As for Yellowknife--well, all they have is moosemeat and diamonds. It's more Palin style than Bush!
